Honoring Father Inspires New Website Memorial Initiative

Antos Family Honors Father and Inspires New Website Feature

Upon the passing of Anatol (Tony) Antos, a crew member of the USS Missiouri, his family contacted the Battleship Missouri Memorial Development Department staff to determine what options were available to honor his memory.  Ideas were discussed from presentation of a flag that was flown over the USS Missouri during the funeral to options for tribute and commemorative gifts made in his honor from family and friends.

Conversation to Inspiration

The brainstorming conversations inspired both the staff and family to work together to create a new webpage area on the Might Mo Membership website that would act as a valuable example of family sharing and serve to link family and friends to crew member information sources.  Providing a link on the membership website helps educate extended family and friends of membership programs, current and previous efforts, and honor the important distinction of crew members even after they have passed on.

Over the next few months, Angela Serrano & Family are graciously volunteering support and review of this special website area to help us continue to develop features and share ideas to carry their family legacy forward for many families.  This assistance is a true reflection of meaningful participation that helps continue the Battleship Missouri Memorial 501(c)3 charitable mission:

To create and maintain a fitting memorial to the people and historic events that reflect our nation's legacy of duty, honor, strength, sacrafice and resolve

In honor of Tony, his service, and the family members that continue to help us develop a special Crew Member Memorial feature area on our membership website, we are showcasing Anatol (Tony) Antos below. Subscribe for free today to get updates about how the crew member webpage memorial project is going!

Make a Tribute Contribution

Please consider honoring Tony and his families effort to develop a site that would be valuable to future Crew Member Tribute & Memorial efforts.  Any contributions made in honor of Anatol (Tony) Antos will be designated to our general fund which will insure development and managment of this important website area.

I would like to honor Tony Antos and help this project get started, tell me more!

About Tony

Anatol (Tony) Antos was born in Lackawanna, New York in 19Pix Anatol Antosw25.  Upon graduating from Lackawanna High School in 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was assigned as a crew member of the USS Missouri.  He saw action in the Pacific including the kamikaze strike in April 1945 and was also present at the surrender ceremony on September 2, 1945 in Tokyo Bay

Tony’s experiences on the USS Missouri were chronicled by ABC News Turning Point in May 1998, by CNN in December 2002, and also by the local news media in Washington, DC in May 2004.

Tony was an active member of the USS Missouri Association.  It is remarkable how many crew members who served on the “Mighty Mo” continue to attend the quarterly meetings honoring their ship.  Tony was one of the crew who readily and gladly attended these meetings.

These men were proud to have served in the US Navy.
