“To Barehull and Back!” Special Commemorative Edition

Presented by Fore N’ Aft Magazine and the Friends of the Mighty Mo

Own the official account of the historic drydocking of the Battleship Missouri at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. This special collector’s issue documents in full-color, glossy detail the multi-faceted story of the colossal engineering feat, completed in anticipation of the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II this summer.

Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard played a key role in winning World War II, so it was especially fitting that its shipyard workers helped to preserve this unique and vital symbol of victory and peace. Following the intense 12 weeks and $18 million worth of maintenance and preservation work in the shipyard’s largest drydock facility, America’s last battleship has returned to Pearl Harbor’s Battleship Row. The return once again brings full circle the story that begins with the day of infamy that saw the sinking of USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor and ends with Imperial Japan’s unconditional surrender aboard USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.

Read how the Mighty Mo underwent an extreme makeover of battleship-size proportions, made possible with the expertise and skill of the shipyard and BAE Systems, as well as with the support of its steadfast Board of Directors, a supportive Congressional delegation, hard working staff, and of course the Friends of the Mighty Mo members and volunteers.

The result is a 66-year-old battleship fortified against the elements for decades to come, hundreds of jobs generated during a downturned economy, and a proven model for similar historic ship preservation projects across the nation. The legacy of the Battleship Missouri continues, charting new waters and inspiring in new generations the lessons learned by our Greatest Generation and the valiant men and women of our Armed Forces, past and present.
