“SHARE OUR SPIRIT” CAMPAIGN
“Share Our Spirit” is a public awareness and community support campaign being launched in conjunction with the upcoming drydocking of the Battleship Missouri at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, and the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II in 2010.
The drydock is one of our important maintenance and preservation projects and a unique chapter in the history of one of the world’s most famous battleships, the Mighty Mo. Her national history includes the site of Japan’s formal surrender in WWII, and missions in both the Korean and Persian Gulf conflicts. Synonymous with the end of history’s most destructive war, the Mighty Mo is not only a symbol of victory, but also an enduring icon of peace.
In addition to fortifying the 65-year old Missouri against the ravages of the elements and time, this historic drydocking project will result in greatly enhanced facilities to insure its nonprofit 501c3 mission is achieved.
A Fitting Tribute
As a fitting tribute to the 65th anniversary of the end of WWII on September 2, 2010, the excitement generated by Missouri’s drydocking will be leveraged to reach a community campaign goal of bringing 1,600 students to the ship in official classroom visitations during the immediate post-drydock year. Community partners, members, staff and volunteers are helping to “Share the Spirit” as we reach out to the community to achieve this goal.
The “Share Our Spirit” campaign has multiple public awareness events and operational features designed to engage the community and achieve our mission: To create and maintain a fitting memorial to the people and historic events that reflect our nation’s legacy of duty, honor, strength, resolve and sacrifice.
Event Calendar
A series of events will be held during the drydock period to highlight the project and support the community campaign goal to insure 1600 students to visit the ship in 2010.
